Speech pathology education can lead to a rewarding career. New Jersey’s Department of Law and Public Safety oversee the education, licensure and ethical practice of speech pathology professionals. The state requires a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from a school accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation. New Jersey has six education programs accredited by the Council.
Speech Language Pathology Certification in New Jersey
Along with completing an accredited training program, New Jersey also requires approximately nine months of professional experience under a licensed supervisor accredited by the American Speech-Language Association. Although the state doesn’t require certification, obtaining the Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology credential will be required by some employers. Speech pathologists can also focus their education and training in one of four specialty areas: child language, fluency, swallowing or intraoperative monitoring.
